Who we are

PaperKeep is an app for scanning, organising and finding paper documents. It is published by IndiBuys ("we", "us"). This policy covers the PaperKeep app for Android and, when it is released, for iPhone.

If you have a question about this policy or your information, write to support@indibuys.com.

Only your own Drive backup ever contains your documents or the text on them, and only you can see it.
03

Your documents

Everything you create in PaperKeep is stored in the app's private storage on your phone:

  • page images and their originals, and the PDFs and JPEGs you export
  • document names, folders, and the text PaperKeep reads on your pages
  • expiry dates found on your documents, and your reminder choices
  • your saved signature and where you placed it
  • your settings, such as appearance, colour theme and app lock

We do not run servers that receive any of this. PaperKeep works without an account and without an internet connection, except for the optional features described below.

04

Scanning and text recognition

Scanning

On Android, PaperKeep uses Google's document scanner, which runs on your phone inside Google Play services. It handles the camera itself, so PaperKeep does not ask for camera permission. On iPhone, PaperKeep uses Apple's document camera, which asks for camera access the first time. The scanned pages are handed straight to PaperKeep on your phone.

Importing photos

When you import from your photos, Android's photo picker shows your photos, and PaperKeep only receives the ones you pick. It cannot see the rest of your gallery.

Reading the text on your pages

PaperKeep reads the words on each page with Google ML Kit text recognition. The recognition models are built into the app, so this happens entirely on your phone, works offline, and sends nothing anywhere. The text is used for search, suggested names, filing into folders, and finding expiry dates.

05

Google Drive backup

Backup is an optional feature of PaperKeep Pro. It is off until you turn it on.

  • Your own Drive. When you connect, you sign in with Google and allow PaperKeep to use your Google Drive. PaperKeep uploads straight from your phone to your Drive. Your documents never pass through us.
  • Only its own files. PaperKeep asks for the narrowest Drive permission (drive.file). It can only see and change files it created, never anything else in your Drive.
  • What it uploads. A "PaperKeep" folder with each document as a PDF, plus a "Restore data" folder with page images and a file of names, folders, recognised text and signatures, so a restore brings everything back.
  • Your account. PaperKeep keeps the email address of the connected Google account on your phone, to show you which account is in use.

You can disconnect at any time in the app. Uploads stop, and the files already in your Drive stay there until you delete them. When you delete a document in PaperKeep while backup is on, its copy is moved to your Drive's trash. Your use of Google Drive is covered by Google's Privacy Policy.

06

Ads in the free version

The free version of PaperKeep shows ads from Google AdMob: a banner on the home screen and, occasionally, a full-screen ad after you save a document. Ads never appear while you scan, edit, or unlock the app.

To show and measure ads, AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, your IP address, basic device information, and how you interact with ads. Where the law requires it, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, PaperKeep first shows Google's consent form so you can choose. You can change your choice later in Settings › Ad privacy choices, and you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.

With PaperKeep Pro the ads system is never started, so none of this data is collected. Ads never receive your documents or their text.

07

Purchases and PaperKeep Pro

PaperKeep Pro is sold through Google Play (and the App Store on iPhone). Your payment is handled entirely by the store. We never receive your card or bank details.

We use RevenueCat to keep track of whether your subscription or lifetime purchase is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID created by PaperKeep, your purchase records from the store (product, price, dates and transaction details), and basic device and app information. It does not receive your name, your email address, or your documents. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.

08

Analytics and crash reports

We use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how PaperKeep is used and to fix problems.

  • Usage events, such as a document being saved, a PDF being exported or a plan changing, with simple values like page counts, how long an export took, or which colour theme you chose.
  • Crash reports, with your device model, Android version, app version and the technical details of the error.
  • Identifiers that Firebase uses to tell app installations apart.
Analytics and crash reports never include document names, the text on your pages, folder names, or any other document content.

See Privacy and Security in Firebase.

09

Permissions

PaperKeep asks only for what its features need:

  • Internet: for backup, ads, purchases, and analytics. Scanning, reading text and searching work offline.
  • Notifications: for expiry reminders (Pro). Reminders are scheduled on your phone; Android asks for permission the first time.
  • Run at startup: to schedule your reminders again after your phone restarts.
  • Fingerprint or face: for app lock, through Android's own prompt. Your fingerprint and face data never reach PaperKeep.
  • Storage: on Android 9 and older only, to save JPEG images to your Pictures folder when you ask it to.
10

Sharing and selling

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone except the service providers named in this policy, for the purposes described.

When you share a PDF or image from PaperKeep, you choose the app or person it goes to, and their own privacy terms apply from then on.

We may disclose information if the law requires it, for example in response to a valid legal request. Because your documents stay on your phone or in your own Drive, we have no copy of them to disclose.

11

Keeping and deleting data

  • On your phone: your documents stay until you delete them. Uninstalling PaperKeep deletes everything it stored on your phone.
  • In your Google Drive: backup files stay until you delete them from Drive. Disconnecting or uninstalling does not delete them.
  • With our service providers: analytics, crash, advertising and purchase data are kept for limited periods under the settings and policies of Google and RevenueCat.

To ask us to delete the analytics or purchase data linked to your app installation, email support@indibuys.com. We may ask for the details we need to find it, such as your purchase receipt.

12

Security

Your documents are kept in PaperKeep's private storage, which other apps cannot read. You can turn on app lock to require your fingerprint, face or phone PIN to open PaperKeep, and PaperKeep hides its contents from the recent apps screen. Everything PaperKeep sends over the internet, to Google or RevenueCat, is encrypted in transit.

No method of storage or transfer is perfectly secure, so please also keep your phone protected with a screen lock.

13

Children

PaperKeep is not directed at children under 13, or under the minimum age in your country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through PaperKeep, contact us and we will help remove it.

14

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the EU and UK GDPR, and US state privacy laws, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to object to or limit how it is used, and to withdraw consent.

Most of your information is already in your control: it lives on your phone and in your own Drive, where you can view, export or delete it at any time. For anything held by our service providers, email support@indibuys.com and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

15

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as PaperKeep changes. We will change the effective date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will also let you know in the app or on the Google Play listing.
